07/26/2003 - We have been experiencing problems with our Kingston (340-7981) dialup number. There is an alternate dialup number (340-1991) available for use until the problem is fixed. Verizon should have the problem resolved on Monday. Thank you for your patience.

04/30/2003 - If you received an email today from postmaster@hvi.net with the subject 'Message delayed (____@aol.com)', you will need to re-send your original email message to the aol address. We experienced a problem on our email server yesterday that caused some mail destined for aol.com to be lost.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience.

03/26/2003 - Hudson Valley Internet service was interrupted this afternoon due to an attack against our network. We have been able to block the attack and normal service has been restored.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused.

11/08/2020 - Due to a problem with our incoming trunk lines, the New Paltz dialup lines were unable to receive modem calls from 11:30 pm last night until 8:30am today. Verizon has fixed the problem and everything is now operating normally. Thank you for your patience while we resolved this problem.

10/12/2020 - We are unable to receive incoming calls to our office support lines (255-2799) today due to problems most likely associated with the rain. Verizon is working on it. We apologise for the inconvenience.

10/03/2021 - Many users experienced difficulty today trying to reach websites across the Internet. This was due to problems within the WorldCom/UUNet network which carries over 50% of the net's traffic. The problems began at approximately 8:00AM and seem to have been cleared up by late afternoon. More information on the outage can be found here.

01/11/2020 - HVI has installed a new Mail Server this week which will enable us to offer improved services like filtering out junk mail and email viruses. There are no changes required for you to use the new mail server. When you read mail the first time, you should get a message to read mail again in a moment or two. This tool, called a Migrator, then transfers your mail from the old mail server to the new mail server.

ATTENTION NETSCAPE USERS: Because of the way Netscape logs in to the mail server, this migration will not happen automatically for you. The best way to start this process is to use our new HVImail.com webmail interface to read mail the first time from the new mail server. Just go to www.hvimail.com and log in with your POP acccount and password (both in all lowercase letters). For instance, if your email address is jsmith@hvi.net, log in with Login of jsmith and your password. You can then Logout and read your mail using Netscape.

If you have any questions or problems, please give us a call.

Thank you for your patience during this upgrade.

10/28/2001 - We experienced a server problem between 5:00AM and 9:30AM which prevented users from logging in. Service has been restored. We apologize for the inconvenience.

06/15/2001 - Hudson Valley Internet is happy to announce that we have doubled our connection to the Internet. This increased bandwidth will help us to continue to provide the fastest response times possible.

02/08/2020 - HVI experienced a server problem between 6:40 PM and 8:20 PM that prevented users from connecting to HVI. Everything is now functioning correctly. We apologize for this inconvenience.

01/19/2001 - HVI service was down this afternoon for approximately 90 minutes due to a power outage in New Paltz. Service was restored just before 5PM. We apologize for the inconvenience.
12/27/2000 - HVI experienced a brief server failure from 9:10 PM - 10:00 PM. Everything is now functioning correctly. We apologize for any inconvenience.

04/19/2000 - FINALLY! The long awaited new modem lines for the Kingston access number are in and working. Many thanks to all of you who have been so patient and endured numerous busy signals over the past few months. Those of you who need a Kingston number (ie, Woodstock, Saugerties, Red Hook, etc) should check that you are dialing 340-7981. That is the only number you should need. If you live in Kingston and can call New Paltz as a local call, you should use 256-2300 as your dialup number.

Once again, thank you very much for your patience.

04/18/2000 - There will be a brief interruption in service on the Kingston access lines on Wednesday between 7:30AM and 8:30AM due to the installation of the long awaited new dialup access lines. We apologize for the inconvenience and will try to keep the outage as short as possible. After this upgrade is complete there will be twice as many lines available on the Kingston number and busy signals should be a thing of the past.

01/01/2021 - Happy New Year! Hudson Valley Internet has survived Y2K! We apologize for delays over the past two days. We may not have picked the best time to upgrade our servers. :-) The end result of the upgrades will lead to the ability to check your Internet usage online in the near future.

We hope you all have a happy and healthy new millenium and thank you for using Hudson Valley Internet.

09/18/99 - As I'm sure you've noticed, the Kingston lines are back in action. In addition, both access numbers (340-7981 & 339-7925) are now equipped with V.90 56k modems. In the very near future we will be combining these modem pools and doubling the number of lines available. Another announcement will be posted when we get an installation date from Bell Atlantic.

09/15/99 - We have had an equipment failure on the 340-7981 Kingston access number. We have redirected half of these lines to 33.6 modems and are in the process of installing new equipment to bring all of the lines back in service as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.

Please contact us if you have any questions.

02/17/99 - We have successfully added additional modem lines for both New Paltz and Kingston access. Those of you using the Kingston access number may have to change the number you are dialing.

For users with 56k modems, the access number should be 340-7981.

For users with 33.6 modems, or slower, the access number should be 339-7925.

If you are not using a 56k modem, please change to the new number (339-7925) as soon as possible.

For information on changing the number your modem dials, visit our Technical Support Page. If you have any questions, please call our office at 255-2799. Thank you.

02/13/99 - Hudson Valley Internet will be adding new equipment over the next few days to support additional phone lines for both the Kingston and New Paltz access numbers. This may cause brief service interruptions for the Kingston access number. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you, but the end result will be more lines available and less busy signals.

Back to top of page

01/27/99 - Service has been restored to the remaining New Paltz access lines. This service interruption was caused by a major break in Bell Atlantic's digital trunk lines between New Paltz and Highland. This is apparently a key path for data traffic in Ulster County. Once again, thank you for your patience and understanding of the situation.

Back to top of page

01/25/99 - Service has been restored to our upstream provider, UUNET, and to half of our New Paltz lines. Unfortunately, half is not enough. There are nearly continous busy signals on the available lines. If you do get connected, please limit your usage to provide other customers the opportunity to get online.

We've made many calls to Bell Atlantic attempting to discover the cause of the problem and an expected time/date of resolution. They offer no information. We are hoping for Tuesday morning for the remaining lines.

Thank you for your patience and understanding of the situation.

Back to top of page

01/24/99 - We are currently experiencing a network outage. Dialup modem users can not reach us via the New Paltz access number. In addition, our upstream link to UUNET is also down.

We've been told that these problems are due to a Bell Atlantic problem between New Paltz and Highland. Our last word was that the problem was related to flooding and that Bell Atlantic was still trying to isolate the service problem affecting trunk lines in this area. Please be aware that we are not the only business being affected by this problem.

We are very sorry for this interruption of our service. Unfortunately, we are at the mercy of Bell Atlantic and must wait for their service to be restored.

Thank you for your patience and understanding of the situation.

11/27/98 - We are happy to announce that the HVI University is now online and accepting students. In association with DPEC, the leader in online training, we can now offer our subscribers access to over 180 online training courses at rates as low as $6 per month. To find out more, just click on the HVI University icon on our home page.

10/19/98 - Bell Atlantic was able to find and fix the problems on both the Kingston and New Paltz access lines. Everything appears to be working correctly again.

Back to top of page

10/18/98 - As of Saturday afternoon, calls to 256-2300 were not rolling past the 24th connection. This means we have another 24 perfectly good lines/modems that are currently inaccessable. The problem has been reported to Bell Atlantic. We will keep you informed.

Back to top of page

10/17/98 - The Kingston access number (340-7981) is misbehaving once again. Bell Atlantic does not provide any support or service for these lines between Saturday 4PM and Monday 7:30AM. The problem seems to have started again around 4PM Saturday.

If you can call New Paltz as a local call, you should change your access number to 256-2300. Details on how to change the number dialed can be found on our Technical Support Page.

If you can only call Kingston, you can still get in using any of the following access numbers:

 340-8401  340-8410
 340-4735  340-4769
 340-9013  340-9014
 340-0410  340-8595
 340-7487  340-0677

The individual Kingston lines are working. The problem is that incoming calls do not rollover correctly to the next available line.

New Paltz

We have added 16 additional modems to our New Paltz access number. These modems, along with the eight brought on-line October 2nd, double the number of modems available to the New Paltz access number (256-2300). This excess capacity will effectively eliminate busy signals and give us room for growth over the next few months. Thank you for your patience during this awkward growth stage. :-)

Hudson Valley Internet's customer-to-modem ratio is now below 8:1.

Back to top of page

10/15/98 - The Kingston access line problem appears to have been resolved. The problem occured when Bell Atlantic was adding new lines for the Kingston access number. The net result is that, after a frustrating 24 hours, the lines are now rolling correctly and we have one-third more access lines available.

If you changed your access number, please return it to 340-7981. Thank you for your patience.

Back to top of page

10/14/98 - We are currently experiencing problems with our Kingston access lines. Bell Atlantic has been contacted several times, but we still have not heard back from them. Additional lines were installed last week, but were not added to the hunt group, which is necessary for calls to rollover to available lines. It appears that Bell Atlantic's attempt to add these new lines to the hunt group has removed all of our existing lines from the group. Therefore, only one person can get in and the next call does not roll over to an available line. We are attempting to get the problem resolved as soon as possible. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Our connection to UUNET was down this morning between 4AM and 5AM while UUNET was performing equipment upgrades.

Back to top of page

10/02/98 - The lines are in! Additional phone lines have been installed for the New Paltz access number (256-2300). If New Paltz is a local call for you, this is the access number your should be using. All modems are 56K V.90/kflex compatible. We are aware that there were many busy signals over the past few weeks and apologize for the inconvenience. Hopefully, we will be able to improve the process of adding modem lines in the future so this won't be a problem again. Thank you for your patience.

Back to top of page

09/24/98 - Our connection to the Internet was generally unavailable today between 10:30AM and 4:30PM. Our upstream provider, UUNET, was having problems with their routers, so our traffic, along with many other UUNET customers, could not reach the rest of the Internet. This is only the second time in almost 16 months that we have had any problem with UUNET (the last one was only for 20 minutes), so I don't expect this to be a problem in the future. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Back to top of page

09/20/98 - The modem upgrade to the new V.90 56K standard is now complete for both the New Paltz and Kingston access numbers. All users with 3COM/U.S. Robotics x2 56K modems should upgrade to V.90 to take advantage of faster connect speeds. Users with 56KFLEX modems do not have to upgrade, but may see a performance improvement with the V.90 upgrade. Firmware upgrades for 56k modems should be available from your modem manufacturer's website. We will post links to the most common modem manufacturers on our Modem Support Page over the next few days.

Further News: We have a tentative install date of September 28th for additional phone lines for the 256-2300 access number.

Back to top of page

09/05/98 - We are working on adding more modem lines to both the New Paltz and Kingston access lines. Unfortunately, Bell Atlantic is not as responsive to our needs as we would like. We hope to have the additional lines within the next 2-3 weeks and will keep you informed. Please accept our apology for any inconvenience.

Back to top of page

07/28/98 - We will be upgrading our modem pools to the new 56K standard - V.90. This may cause brief service interruption on Saturday, July 25th. We will post a message concerning the new V.90 standard when our testing is complete.

Back to top of page

06/01/98 - Due to the severe storms that went through our area yesterday, we are currently experiencing intermittent problems on our Kingston access lines. Bell Atlantic is working on it and should have it resolved in a day or so. If you are having problems connecting and are a local call to New Paltz, try using 256-2300 until the problems are resolved.

Back to top of page

05/11/98 - The installation of additional access lines for the Kingston number has been completed. Unfortunately, during the installation all of the Kingston access lines were unavailable for a few hours during the day on Monday. We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. We will continue to monitor usage of the Kingston access lines and add more lines as necessary.

Back to top of page

05/05/98 - We have more modem lines being installed over the next few weeks for both the New Paltz and Kingston access numbers. The new Kingston lines should be available later this week. More lines for New Paltz should follow over the following few weeks. If you do experience a busy signal, just try again in a few minutes - the lines usually don't stay busy for long.

Back to top of page

03/09/98 - We have completed configuration of our Kingston dial-up hardware to support K56flex. Those of you needing a Kingston dial-up number should switch to 340-7981. All others should continue using 256-2300.

Back to top of page

02/28/98 - We will be performing maintenance on our hardware Sunday morning between 10AM and noon. You may experience problems connecting during those hours. We will make every effort to complete the work as quick as possible.

Back to top of page

02/25/98 - Hudson Valley Internet is happy to announce that we now have a Kingston dial-up access number. All current HVI customers in the Kingston/Saugerties/Woodstock/Red Hook/Ellenville area are encouraged to change to the new number, which is 340-7981. Currently, these lines are set up for 33.6K baud. We hope to have everything configured for K56flex within the next week.
For information on how to change the dial-up access number on your computer, go to our Technical Support page or give us a call at the office.

01/31/98 - UUNET, our upstream provider, has experienced several brief network outages in the New York area this afternoon. It has happened two or three times so far, but they seem to be able to get it corrected quickly. If you are able to get to our site, but not other sites on the Internet, you may want to wait a few minutes and try again.

Back to top of page

11/10/97 - Almost everyone has switched to the new access phone number. However, we still have a few users dialing in on 255-3251. The old access phone number will not be available much longer, so if you have not switched to 256-2300, please do so as soon as possible. If you need help permanently changing the number in you dialer, you can refer to our Technical Support page for assistance or, as always, give us a call at the office. Thank you.

Back to top of page

10/22/97 - We have our lines! The new access phone number is 256-2300. Please disconnect now and reconnect using the new number. (Be aware that the modem will sound different when connecting - no ringing, a flat busy-signal type sound, then chirping as it connects). If you have any problems, please let us know. Your billing period will start on Friday the 24th. Thank you very much for all your patience.

For information on how to change the access number on your computer, go to our Technical Support page.

Please note that the old number will not be available for much longer, so please switch to 256-2300 as soon as possible. Thank you.

11/30/97 - We have added two new features to our HVI home page, a Technical Support area to help you with common problems and a Software Download page where you can get free Email & FTP software. We will continue to expand both of these areas in the future. Both areas are accessable from the HVI Home Page.
