Trail Map

Most travelers arrive at the trail in New Paltz. New Paltz is located about 90 miles north of New York City and about the same distance south of Albany. The easiest way to get to New Paltz is the New York State Thruway to Exit 18. Upon exiting the Thruway, turn left on Route 299 (Main Street) and proceed through the Village until intersecting the rail trail just before the bridge crossing the Wallkill River.

The Wallkill Valley Rail Trail stretches 12.2 miles south from the New Paltz/Rosendale town line to the Gardiner/Shawangunk town line.

By clicking on any of the cameras on the map a window will pop up with a photo of the scenic view along the Trail. In addition, parking areas which can be used to access the Rail Trail are marked along the map. Clicking on any of the red cars will show directions to the parking site from the nearest major road.

Get a letter size document with detailed directions to designated Rail Trail parking areas to print out and take with you along with the large map the next time you visit.
